Beatriz was born in post-revolutionary Havana, Cuba. By age five, she left the repressed island with her parents and grandmother in search of freedom in the U.S. by way of Spain. The following year she arrived with her family to New York settling down in the South Bronx. "The Bronx is where my heart is; my first home in the U.S. and where I became a Yankees fan," says Beatriz. By the time she was 14, the author moved to Queens where she spent her teen years until making the move to Manhattan's upper east side after college and joining the working class. During her life, she was fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and worldwide making new friends from all cultures, but not without the perilous adventures she tells in her book. With the horrors she experienced now behind her, Beatriz lives happily with her husband in Westchester County, New York, and runs a successful business serving government agencies and private sector companies.
